Flander's story is one of heartbreak and survival.

When he was rescued, Flander was barely hanging in there. His body told a painful history; broken teeth, swollen limbs, damaged paws and nails worn down from desperation and fighting. He was battling infection and inflammation throughout his body. Every step was difficult and every breath was a reminder of what he's endured.

Flander had developed strong feral behaviours; he was deeply fearful of humans and it was clear he had learned to associate humans with pain, not safety. For years, he lived in a racoon-populated area, fighting for scraps of food and struggling just to survive. The trauma he has experienced is profound.

When Flander came to LCCR he was in the earliest stages of healing and we gave him a lot of time, space and medical care he so desperately needed. We worked hard to ease his pain, earn his trust and help him rediscover what it means to feel safe.

Flander has made remarkable strides. When he was first introduced to more kitties, he immediately befriended kittens and can often be seen hanging out with his new little friends. He is a gentle soul who loves warm compresses for his ongoingly sore eye and will accept pets from the volunteers on his own terms. He is still quite shy and will need a very patient, quiet home and family to help him continue his healing journey.

While you follow his healing journey and contemplate adopting him, here's how you can help -
