Meet Slater – A Work in Progress Worth Watching
Some cats arrive at LCCR ready to find their forever homes. Others need a little more time. Slater is one of those special cats whose journey is still unfolding.
For at least a year and a half, Slater was known to our dedicated trapper. An intact male left to fend for himself, he survived on his own for far too long. When he appeared again on a local social media post, concerns about his condition prompted a welfare check. What was found was heartbreaking.
Slater was in rough shape. His coat was heavily matted, he was dehydrated, and his body was covered in wounds from life on the streets. After spending so long without consistent care, companionship, or safety, he had also developed significant feral behaviours and found it difficult to trust people.
Since arriving at the ranch, however, Slater has started writing a new chapter.
Every day brings small but meaningful victories. He is gradually learning that people can be kind and that regular meals, warm beds, and gentle voices are things he can count on. He is beginning to acclimate to the other cats in our care and is slowly becoming more comfortable with the humans around him. While he still has a long road ahead before he will be ready for adoption, the progress he has made so far gives us hope for his future.
Slater is currently in transition and is not available for adoption at this time. Right now, his focus is on healing, learning to trust, and discovering what it means to simply be a cat again.
Become Part of Slater's Journey
While Slater continues his rehabilitation, you can support him through our Virtual Foster Program. Virtual fosters help provide the food, veterinary care, enrichment, and specialized support that cats like Slater need during their recovery.
You can also follow Slater's progress through LCCR updates and celebrate each milestone as he learns to leave his difficult past behind. Donations toward his ongoing care are always appreciated and directly help cats like Slater receive the time and resources they need to thrive.
Slater may not be ready for his forever home yet, but he's already proving that even the most cautious hearts can learn to trust again. We can't wait to see what the next chapter holds for this resilient boy. 🧡🐾
